How to Wear Dresses In Wintry Weather

It’s getting cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you have to pack away your dresses. I’m definitely not doing that because I’m really digging dresses at the moment, and I want to wear any one I want when I want. Here are some styling tricks I rely on to do just that. To demonstrate, I’m wearing my Zara scarf print dress (seen before here).

Layer Under

Layering is the smartest and easiest way to ensure your dresses feel weather appropriate. Add a thermal top, add tights, add leggings, the options are endless. Choose the one that best suits the situation. For my current weather, do the trick.

Add A Coat

All kinds of coats look fabulous with dresses. From peacoats to leather jackets, there is a complementary topper for every dress. I can still get away with a lightweight jacket, and my moto jacket pairs well with this scarf print dress.

Wear Boots

Boots add an edgy vibe to dresses, and they keep your toes warm. This particular pair of Rockport Total Motion Lynix Zip booties definitely brings the edge with its exposed zipper. Like Rockport booties? Use the code ROCKPORTBLOGGER25 to get 25% off your purchase.

New Boutique Shopping Experience Coming to St. Louis

New shoppertunities! I’m so thrilled to share that , a collective boutique based in Kansas City, Mo, is setting up shop at the West County Center in St. Louis in November. The grand opening is going down on November 8, from 6  to 9 p.m., and you should be there.

Kindred Boutique Grand Opening

kindred boutique

Kindred, a collective boutique, features inventory from different boutique vendors. The St. Louis branch of Kindred is opening with merchandise from 7 boutiques, including Ashley Jayne, Addi and Ains, Rustic Twine, Juju B’s, and Solayne Designs. What makes the collective model special? Adam Pfeifer, Kindred owner, says, “we don’t want a buying team of 5 people living in LA or NYC telling us what we wear or buy in the Midwest. We want our buyers to be our friends, our local style icons, our neighbors. Being a collective allows us different perspectives, and you can totally see that in our product mix.”

What can you expect when you step into Kindred St. Louis? A well-curated and cohesive boutique is what I hear. The owner makes it a priority to merchandise product from all its vendor partners together. This facilitates the customer shopping experience and allows customers to encounter merchandise from each vendor.

Kindred St. Louis, like its Kansas City base, will have a little something for everyone. The vendors featured will offer a range of product from a diverse group of buyers. More importantly, if you like to support small business owners, this mall location will make it super easy to do so. Pfeiffer believes this is important because “a collective empowers small business owners to grow their team, add stability to their business, and build a stronger business.”

I’m getting a sneak peek of the new location next week. Be sure to follow my stories on  for an insider’s look. Then, swing by the opening celebration on November 8. There’ll be champagne and small bites.

Fall Essentials I’m wearing:

(c/o Talbots)

I received a Talbots catalog in the mail recently, and I was blown away by the hip fall styles in fun colors. So, when I heard about the Friends and Family sale, I started wish-listing colorful fall essentials.

It was pretty much a wrap (pun intended), then, when I spotted the at Talbots. No surprise, I think yellow is a fabulous color for a coat (see my trench here and my moto jacket here). So, a wool coat in yellow made sense for me. And, this wrap coat? It’s beautiful. It has a figure-flattering silhouette with a self tie belt. It also has stand collar with a button closure, so you can wear it open like I’m wearing it or closed at the neckline when it gets chillier.

I’m a little obsessed with turtlenecks. They’re cold-weather staples for good reason. They keep you warm and have a super polished look. They’re also perfect for layering under or over. So, to rock my coat with the neckline open, I’m wearing the . By the way, this turtleneck comes in 8 colors, and I think I need them all, especially since they’re 30% off right now.

Low-heeled pumps are all the rage this fall. I featured this in a round-up of comfortable power pumps recently. The Modern Leopard print and the comfy stacked heel make this style such a standout.

If you’re on the market for fall essentials, be sure to check out the Talbots Friends and Family Sale before it ends on October 28.

Urban Decay Launches Naked Cherry Collection, And It’s Sweet!

Given it’s popularity over the years, it’s very likely you’ve owned an Urban Decay Naked palette or two at some point. That palette achieved cult-favorite status. I really enjoyed getting creative and mastering my own makeup skills with Urban Decay palettes. So, it was shocking when news broke earlier this fall that the original Naked palette would be discontinued. What the what?

Good news is, though, Urban Decay was working on something new, and it’s good. Really good. Last month, Urban Decay dropped the Naked Cherry Collection, which includes a Naked Cherry eyeshadow palette. Will it be permanent and replace the original Naked palette? That’s left to be seen. What I do know is the collection is bomb. I got my hands on the entire thing, so I’m sharing a quick look and early favorites.

The entire Naked Cherry Collection includes the , , , , a , and 3 satin finish Vice Lipsticks in , , and .

The 12 shadow palette is fantastic if you love warm berry hues. I do! I’ve already been experimenting with most of the colors. If there was just one deeper plum color, it would be the perfect palette.

I prefer matte lippies, so these lipsticks really surprised me because I love ’em. I’ve worn Juicy, a shimmering peachy beige, every day since getting it. The deep cherry red is my second favorite. All in all, these lip colors complement the eye looks you’d create with the palette well.

When I first opened the , I knew immediately I’d love the reddish-coral blush and the shimmering highlighter on the left. I was hesitant, though, about that iridescent complexion topper on the right. It’s the kind of color that can easily look ashy on brown skin. It looks fabulous though!

Here’s an easy look I created using the Naked Cherry Collection. My foundation is . The lipstick is Juicy. I’m also wearing that iridescent highlighter. Quite nice, right? As always, I set my makeup with the All Nighter Spray. It’s my go-to setting spray. I will be sticking to the original formula, but the cherry-scented one has a soft cherry scent that’s pleasant.

See how well the collection accents fall’s favorite brown hues here.

Disclosure: Urban Decay provided the entire collection.

Chocolate Brown: How To Rock Fall’s Most Wearable Color

Rejoice! Chocolate brown is an IT color this fall. And, there are so many cool ways to wear the rich hue. Now, brown and brownish shades have always had a place in fashion. Brown booties? Essentials. A brownish trench coat? Such a classic. This fall, though, what we’re seeing is brown holding down entire looks. Picture head-to-toe brown ensembles.

I’m particularly fond of chocolate brown on a suit or a floor-sweeping maxi dress. When I saw today’s featured , I knew it was for me. The chocolate brown dress blends a few trends I’m loving. It’s a beautiful shade of brown, and it has the polished style of a blazer at the top.

This dress is a wrap style dress. I recommend sizing down. I’m wearing a size small, and I’m confident a size extra small would fit even better. Because it is a wrap style dress, though, you have some flexibility with sizing. The dress connects with ties on the inside and two buttons on the front.

This dress is long with long sleeves, so to make it a tad sexy, I’m highlighting the fabulous split you can play with since it’s a wrap dress. Of course, doing that is optional. Ha.

By the way, have you tried Urban Decay’s Naked Cherry Collection? I’m a fan! I created this beauty look using the , the , and the . The colors in this collection are perfect complements to fall color trends.
