Fenty Beauty Feature and Other Highs in 2017

It’s that time of year for reflections and projections. I’m so grateful to you for stopping by, commenting, sharing, engaging social posts throughout the year and always. I started this blog because I enjoy talking about fashion and beauty. And, it’s such a privilege and honor to still be able to do that with the same excitement and joy I had when I started. That has so much to do with you. So, thank you!

As we count down to the end of the year, I thought it would be cool to look back at some special moments and blog milestones. I’ll be doing that all week. Today’s post spotlights some of my most memorable features and opportunities. Here we go!

1. Fenty Beauty. As a super fan of Fenty Beauty products (see blog posts here and here) and Rihanna, I was beyond thrilled when I stumbled upon my own picture on the brands Instagram page. Somebody pinch me, please!

2. Natural Hair Love. 2017 was a year of major hair changes for me. I’ll definitely reflect more on that in a separate post. I occasionally write about hair and hair products, so among other concerns, I was a bit nervous about how chopping off all my hair might affect the work I do here. So, to receive the support and love from you all and my natural hair community has been so comforting.

3. Love Gap. My Gap Fit activewear is among my all-time favorites. I still own and wear some pieces that are 7 years old! So, when Gap (and Gap France and a few other Gap locations) asked to use an image of me in their social campaigns earlier this year, it was an easy yes.

4. Fashion Bomb Daily. I’ve been a Claire Sulmers and the Fashion Bomb Daily super fan from day one. So, when I was invited to be included a fashion feature focusing on one of my favorite prints (gingham), I was ecstatic. See the post .

5. Collections by Joya. “Hey, Psyche, would you like to model for our upcoming catalog?” Me: “Err…I’m not a model.” Ha! That was seriously my first thought when one of my favorite locally-based jewelry brands asked me to model for its spring lookbook (see more on that here). It was such an awesome experience.

6. Denizen Style Council. And, when your favorite denim brand invites you to be a year-long ambassador, life doesn’t get any better than that.

7. Refinery 29. I love Mac Rebel! It’s one of my favorite lippies. So, I was excited to see how universally flattering it was in a Refinery 29 piece. Then, there I was! Check out the article .

How to Rock the High-Fashion Fanny Pack

You know those childhood photos that you find utterly embarrassing? One of mine captured me on my way to a Carnival parade in St. Kitts. The outfit was mostly cool, but I was wearing the largest fanny pack I have ever seen. Every time, I look at that photo, I wonder, “how in the world could I have thought that bag looked cute?” Now, many years later, I’m a fan of fanny packs again.

Still on the fence about fanny packs? Rock me with for a second. The belt-bags of today don’t have to look like the fanny packs of back in the day. If you want that throwback, more sporty style, you can certainly find it (like , , and ). If you’re open to a modern, more high-fashion vibe, then today’s post is for you.

Like many, I’ve been quite fond of all things Gucci since Alessandro Michele became the brand’s creative director. I delayed purchasing a bag, though, because I was drawn to the “IT” bag (see it ) and usually try to avoid purchasing those. Their popularity tends to fizzle as fast as it grows. And, it’s a pricey purchase.

After months of weighing options, I decided on the . Why? Its versatility is appealing. The bag’s detachable chain strap and attached key ring allows me to wear it in multiple ways (at least 5), including as a fanny pack. So, I get the belt bag look without any commitment since I can wear it differently. For tips on saving for pricier purchases, check out this post.

What I love most about fanny packs is the convenience of the completely hands-free bag. I’m also loving that they can function as belts, cinching the waist or adding perfect finishing touches to a look.

In this look, I wanted my belt bag to tie the outfit together, literally and figuratively. While the bag adds a nice finishing touch, it’s also holding my blanket scarf together as a poncho. I was gifted this oversized plaid scarf at an event at , a small boutique in St. Louis offering styles that effortlessly mix and match. If you’re local, you can find this scarf in 3 prints for $25 there.

How to Wear Your Favorite Oversized Plaid Shirt

My plaid shirts are go-tos when I want a more casual style (see example here). But, they can be easily dressed for almost any occasion with the right accessories (like this). So, when I needed a little festive red for a holiday event recently, I reached for a plaid shirt. Here’s how I wore it.

What I’m Wearing:

Shirt (, ) | Leggings (, ) | Shoes ()

| Bag () | Lip:

This particular plaid shirt is long enough to function as a tunic. So, I paired it with a pair of edgy, faux leather leggings. I cinched the waist with my  to control the volume and create a flattering silhouette. I’m really happy that I chose the skinny version of this belt because it best suits my frame and my overall belt needs. I purchased the belt in a size 85, which allows me to wear it on my waist and as a hip belt without adding additional holes.

To add a little fun to the look, I relied on print mixing. My Sophia Webster pumps have the perfect clashing yet complementary floral print.

This Loeffler Randall lock clutch, with its beautiful dot print, adds a third print into the mix. Together, all three prints make magic.

To allow the plaid shirt to shine, I kept my accessories simple, opting for studs in the ears and a watch only.

P.S. I stole borrowed this shirt from my husband’s closet. Since I have to return it, I’m really liking this Gap version.
